Pet of the Month-May
Memories of Minnie The Wolf River Veterinary Clinic lost one of its most unique and favorite patients recently. Minnie, a 15 year old pug, had to be euthanized one sad day after battling lymphoma for a lengthy period. Minnie was rescued at four weeks of age by her lifetime caregivers, John and Louise. She was a small dog amongst big ones, having spent most of her life with a variety of Dobermans. Perhaps this is what made her so tough. And Minnie was a scrapper, always having a feisty attitude (which sometimes made things a challenge for us at the clinic). Minnie always new what she liked, and one of those things were M+M Candies. Minnie did not always have a good appetite, and could be a challenge to regulate a diet on, but she was always ready for her morning M+M’s. she also liked to ride in the boat when John and Louise took her on vacation. On a trip to bear country in Canada last year, Minnie slipped away and could not be found. After a frantic search and fearing the worst, she was found calmly waiting in the boat next to the dock, anticipating a ride. In Minnie’s later years, she developed a variety of health concerns. She tore an anterior cruciate ligament, she had bladder stones, she developed diabetes, and had to be put on insulin. Finally, a strange module appeared on her lower lip, and it turned into a rare case of a localized malignant lymphoma. She underwent a variety of chemotherapy, radiation treatment, surgery, and more chemotherapy before the cancer finally won. John and Louise never gave up on her, and gave her every possible bit of hope they could. Minnie remained spunky up until the last few days when the tumors started cutting off her air supply. With a final act of love, she was released from her suffering. Minnie was a character-cute, spunky, ad possessing an incredible will to live. On top of that she was blessed with John and Louise, who loved her dearly, and helped her to clear every hurdle in life until the last hurdle was impossible to clear. Based on her unique personality, and the wonderful bond she had with her owners, we are proud to have Minnie represent our pet of the month. She will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
